VIDEO

In this video from 2003, Swami Radhananda encourages us to bring forward the feminine to make ourselves and the world whole.

In this month’s audio clip from the archives, Swami Radha encourages us to think about our inner gardens—the quality of our soil, the seeds we have planted and the concepts and ideas that are rooted in the mind.

REFLECTION IDEAS

April brings a profusion of possibilities. Just as the shoots push through the earth to flower or begin growth toward maturity, at the Ashram the YDCers exit the course to transition into Hatha training, Karma Yoga or living the teachings back home. From the interior work, ideals break forth to be manifested in the world.

This month’s theme offers us an opportunity to tap into our innate creativity and direct it!

At the Ashram we will be using our weekly classes to explore creativity through a variety of practices and reflections. Here are some ideas.

  1. Make the teachings personal through art. Choose a god or goddess that attracts you from the Kundalini system and personalize them in your own drawing. Or listen to the Relaxation audio with Swami Radha leading you through different levels of consciousness. Express your experience of one (or all) of the different fountains through colour and drawing, music or dance.
  2. Thoughts reproduce like seeds. – What do you want to plant in your mind? Ask yourself: What kind of person do I want to be? Make a list of ideals you want to live by. How can you keep these ideals in mind in your daily life activities? Make a plan.
  3. Write a poem about Divine Mother. Describe Her as everything that is most beautiful, most perfect, most forgiving—everything you desire to become yourself.
  4. Where does the power to create come from? What is the role of the senses? What happens when you don’t depend on sight? One way to experiment is to draw a simple object without looking down at your drawing, just concentrating on the object. Draw very slowly, keeping your mind and eyes focused on the object. What happens to your mind? Does your drawing offer a fresh perspective?
  5. Close your eyes. Repeat the Divine Mother prayer 25 times. Visualize your Divine Mother. Using your imagination, describe what she looks like. What words do you choose? Write them down. Draw a picture of your Divine Mother. Now ask, How would I describe myself? What words would I use? Write them down. Try using your Divine Mother words to describe yourself. Observe how you feel. Can you embody that potential?
  6. Expand your creative ability and enrich your life by incorporating symbols and metaphor consciously into your life. For example as you wash dishes think of creating a transparent mind; as you make your bed thinking of smoothing out the wrinkles of your mind. Wear precious jewelry as a reminder of the Divine.
