“Devotion” is the theme for March 2013

VIDEO

In this video, Swami Radhananda talks about using the keys Divine Mother has handed us to open the doors of our spiritual home and asks, “Why not make a habit of being devotional?”

AUDIO

In this month’s audio clip from the archives, listen to Swami Radha discussing the Divine Mother of the Universe Prayer. She offers a way to use the prayer, which she adapted from various sources, in conjunction with the Divine Light Mantra. Allow these archival materials to support and sustain your practice of devotion throughout the month.

REFLECTION IDEAS

March includes the enlivening arrival of spring. What has been dormant in your life that is now ready to come forward? How can spring help generate an attitude of devotion?

This month’s theme offers us an opportunity to take the time and space to approach our devotional aspects in a variety of ways.

Here at the Ashram we’ll be using our weekly reflection classes to encourage devotion through a variety of practices.

  1. Ritual – Create a ritual to continue throughout the month. Make it personal and make it a habit. Check back in at the end of the month to observe the effect.
  2. Likhita and art – Use your creative gifts! Find inspiring divine images and fill them in by writing a mantra again and again. Or draw your own divine image to deepen your relationship with that aspect. Or write (or copy out) a poem and add illustrations. Make your offering your own.
  3. Divine Mother – Cultivate and express devotion through practices with Divine Mother. Engage in dialogue, use the Divine Mother mantra or Divine Mother of the Universe prayer, find Her throughout your days.
  4. What are your keys to devotion? What are you devoted to? What part does gratitude have to play?
  5. Some other ideas – Go through the Kundalini system finding the theme of “devotion” and working with the exercises and practices. At the end of the month take time to reflect: what did you learn about yourself? about devotion?

DANCE

March’s dance offering is the Gratitude dance, choreographed by Swami Radhakrishnananda. Here at the Ashram, we’ll be practicing it after lunch twice per week. How do you expand and express your devotion using your body as a spiritual tool? Tune in to our Bhajan Blast at the end of the month to watch the dance.

LIVE BHAJAN BLAST

Get in touch with your inner Bhakti as we join together in devotion though song and dance. On March 24th at 7 pm Pacific Daylight Time, we’ll be having our third Bhajan Blast of the year. Join our live streaming from wherever you are – connecting to the Ashram and to each other.

*Prayer to Divine Mother of the Universe

Oh Divine Mother, thou art the Mother of the Universe.
Thou hast dominion over all things.
I am thy child, created in thy image.
But I have been a truant, wandering away from my heavenly home of cosmic plenty. Help me to regain my consciousness of thy self.
Rescue my consciousness, shipwrecked in this tiny body.
Help me to remember that I am created in thy image
and have power over everything as thou hast.
I am an independent spirit, created by Divine Light,
brilliant white Light that has no shadow.
I am created for a purpose, part of the divine plan.
May I know that purpose to fulfill the divine will for this life.
May I be forgiven for all my wrong actions, knowing and unknowing, in this life, and others.
I will forgive also all wrong actions, true or imagined, by others, in this life or before.
