Yoga Development Course Participation Agreement

Yoga Development Course (YDC) Participation Agreement

Overview

The YDC is an intensive three-month program designed to give participants an in-depth experiential introduction to the major branches of yoga as well as a foundation in personal self-study and spiritual development. The course is of lasting value to all those who wish to deepen their yoga practice, expand their awareness and make changes in their approach to life.

Attendance

The YDC is taught in a sequence of workshops that begins with introductions to Yasodhara Yoga practices and then deepens in personal and spiritual exploration, understanding and learning over time. You are expected to engage fully in the process, attending morning Hatha classes, daily workshops and evening satsangs.

Absences affect your learning and have an effect on the group. Therefore full attendance is expected. Exceptions include absence due to illness (checking in with the Ashram’s First Aid team) or family emergency.

Participants

The YDC Admission Committee makes every effort to interview and/or carefully read all applications for the 3-month course to answer questions, offer information and also assess whether the program seems a ‘fit’. For those attending the Ashram for the first time, there will be a check-in after three weeks to be sure all is going well.

For all participants we ask that you be psychologically stable with capacity to enter deep explorations into your life. Questions that explore your inner world through dreams, symbolism and personal reflection can be both challenging and freeing. Spiritual practices and group guidelines help create a safe environment.

Sometimes even with all the care that goes into the application process, personally psychologically troubling or activating issues may arise for you during the 3 months. There may be situations in your process where it would be advisable to have the support of an outside therapist, which would be at your expense.

In some cases, we may need to assess whether continuing in the program is the best choice moving forward. We prefer this to be a joint decision. If you choose to discontinue participation, please put your request in writing.

We ask everyone to have an exit plan in the event that discontinuing the YDC is in your best interest. A financial refund minus the $500 administrative fee would be pro-rated.

Confidentiality

To create a safe environment and respect each person’s process, all participants are asked to maintain confidentiality of what comes forward in classes.

Most days you will be asked to summarize the day’s learning. You will be assigned a teacher who reads your papers throughout the course. Some of this information may be shared among the teachers to ensure care is given to individuals and to the group as a whole.
