An online silent auction generously offered by local artists & craftspeople

Shirley-WyngaardWhen local artist Shirley Wyngaard recognized the challenge of rebuilding the Temple, she saw opportunity for the arts community to get involved. “So many of us have a relationship on some level with the Ashram. I thought a way to contribute would be to have an art auction.”

“The idea has really blossomed. It’s of mutual benefit – for the artists, for the community and for the Ashram.”

Shirley wanted the auction to start small and be of high quality. The 18 items gathered will be unveiled at a June 6 event at the Ashram – the one-year anniversary of the Temple fire – when the design concept for the new Temple of Light is presented to the community. “I have to congratulate the Ashram on meeting the adversity and moving ahead with such grace,” she adds.

Collaboration between artists and the Ashram seems natural to Shirley. “To me that’s the nature of the Ashram – to nurture and develop beauty in many ways. Personal growth is really the aim of an artist too.”

Here is a preview of some of the donated items. The Auction will go online July 1 to August 31:
