The
Ashram Guest Lodge, beloved of many guests, has just
received a facelift. In September, Saraswati received
a new roof. And this month a new exterior—acrylic
stucco over foam board and netting, in an apricot color
that blends in with the surrounding trees. Radha House,
adjacent to the Guest Lodge, is receiving a new exterior
as well.
Inside, the buildings remain the same. Guests will be greeted
by the familiar sight and scent of the cedar logs. And
with the new insulation, they will experience increased
warmth in the winter and coolness in the summer.
The new exterior is just one of the Ashram’s efforts
to support Canada’s participation in the Kyoto treaty.
Swami Sivananda, Ashram engineer, says, “This is
the first major facelift of the Guest Lodge since it was
built 35 years ago. It’s part of our campaign to
reduce our energy footprint, and, rumor has it, it will
decrease our population of cedar bugs.”
The cost of the insulation and coating is $25,000, part
of the $500,000 building campaign that is currently under
way—a small price to renew our guest houses for another
30 years. |
