The work of the society is divided into several specific areas, each with its own operations fund. You can donate to any of the funds listed below.
General Fund
The General Fund maintains the Ashram’s day-to-day core operations, allowing us to respond to needs and priority projects as they arise.
Sustainability & Building Fund
We are renovating our older accommodations and building new energy efficient buildings. As well, we are incorporating sustainable practices to take into account the effect of our choices on local and global resources.
During the past year the old barn was transformed, becoming new accommodation and classroom space. We are using geothermal technology to heat the building and solar panels for heating water. The insulation at our Guest Lodge and one other building was also upgraded.
Making the shift to energy efficiency involves a significant initial capital cost—a cost that is recovered in the long run There is a lot we can do to reduce our environmental footprint. Donating to this fund is a contribution to environmental sustainability.
Young Adult Program
Our Young Adult Program is one of our success stories. Since 1995, over 1,000 Young Adults, ages 18 – 30, have come to the Ashram to experience life in a spiritual community and to gain valuable work skills. The program is funded entirely by donations.
Your contribution will go toward the cost of each young adult's stay at the Ashram, whether they are part of the Young Adult Program, our Internship Program, or taking a subsidized course. (young adults are eligible for a 50% discount on courses upon application).
Successful applicants to the Young Adult Program are required to stay a minimum of two weeks. Daily/weekly cost is $25/175.
Publishing Fund
Our publishing fund supports ascent magazine and timeless books — publishing branches of Swami Radha’s work.
Established in 1999, ascent is our independent, not-for-profit magazine of yoga and engaged spirituality. Relying on self-reflective, non-dogmatic journalism as well as original illustration and photography, ascent endeavors to explore the intersection of spirituality with social action, art, culture and contemporary thought. ascent has won several awards for its editorial and design, including the 2003 and 2005 Utne Independent Press Award for excellence in Spiritual Coverage, as well as a 2004 Bronze Eddy award for Spiritual/Religious content.
Established in 1978, timeless books publishes the books, CD’s, and Videos that have helped make Swami Radha’s teachings available throughout the world. timeless is currently involved in updating her yoga classics such as: Kundalini Yoga for the West, Mantras, and the Divine Light Invocation. timeless is releasing two new books in 2006, Durga’s Embrace: A Disciple’s Diary by Swami Durgananda, and an updated 20th anniversary edition of Hatha Yoga: the Hidden Language.
Our publishing fund keeps ascent and timeless going through direct subsidy. It also supports our Young Artists Initiative, which encourages emerging writers, illustrators, photographers and designers.
Elders Fund
The Ashram community values the knowledge and experience of seniors. The Elders Fund allows people on fixed incomes to participate in courses, or to enjoy an extended residency in the Ashram. Your donation supports these vital members of Ashram life.
Swami Radha Memorial Fund
The Swami Radha Memorial Fund is a permanent commemoration of her life and teachings. The capital is never touched, only the annual earnings are used to support the work of the Ashram. Your gift to the Memorial Fund will keep on giving, in perpetuity.
"Donating financially to the Ashram and its work is one way that
I can express my gratitude for Swami Radha's teachings, which
have illumined and elevated my life."
