Guidelines
The Ashram has a few guidelines that we would like to pass on to
you. Yasodhara Ashram is a celibate community; therefore, keep in
mind that our focus is on spiritual development, and not on socializing
or forming romantic relationships. Additionally, the use of illegal
drugs and alcohol is not permitted.
We ask that you take full responsibility for yourself during your
stay. What we offer is not a substitute for professional, medical
or psychological treatment.
To get the most benefit from this intensive course we urge all participants
to remain at the Ashram for the full three months. It is wise, therefore,
to arrange your personal and business affairs so that you can really
be here full time, without interruptions. The personal supplies
that you may need can be purchased at our bookstore or ordered on
our weekly town run. Please consider your stay a closed retreat.
Finally, if you have any physical limitations that would make it
difficult for going up and down stairs or winter walking generally,
please let us know several weeks before you arrive. Please note
that under our new food policy we make a distinction between food
sensitivities and serious medical conditions - food sensitivities
and mild allergies cannot be accommodated.
To help integrate the YDC experience we offer the opportunity for
all course participants to stay at the Ashram for an additional
5 months at no charge. During this period you will become part of the
community by being an active member of our karma yoga program.
What to bring:
Four distinct seasons in the mountains require a variety of clothing.
Winters can be cold and snowy. Summer days can be hot and the evenings
cool. Dress is casual except on special occasions.
Please bring the following: outdoor work clothes, waterproof footwear
with good traction for snow and ice, loose fitting clothing for
hatha yoga, slippers or sandals for indoors, a flashlight, alarm
clock, and a phone card if you plan to make long distance calls.
A journal will be required for your reflections. We record your
personal development workshops such as Life Seals® and the Straight Walk®
so that you can have a tape record for your reflections. We have
some tape recorders here, but a small portable tape player of your
own would be more convenient for you. If you have a laptop computer
you may want to bring it. You will need your own printer too.
Books you will need for the course can be purchased at the Ashram
Bookstore. These include: Kundalini Yoga for the West, Hatha Yoga
the Hidden Language, Realities of the Dreaming Mind all by Swami
Radha, and The Bhagavad Gita by Swami Sivananda.
Course Payments and other Financial Considerations
The YDC fee is $6950 with a deposit of $750 required upon registration.
This amount covers your accommodation, meals and tuition for the
duration of the course. The balance is paid in 3 installments: $2,200
on arrival, and $2,000 each for February 1 and March 1.
We accept Canadian or US cheques, money orders, travelers’ cheques,
cash, Visa or Mastercard and bankcards. Of your course fees, $3,375
is tuition, which is tax deductible in Canada. The remainder of
the fee covers room and board.
We
do not provide cash advances on bankcards, so please bring some
cash with you. International guests, including those from the United
States, are advised to let their credit card companies know about
your planned spending before leaving your country, as credit
card companies are becoming more careful about approving international
spending.
Please come with valid insurance for medical care and for your personal
belongings.
