Temple Resonates with Devotion

The Temple of Light holds the warm glow of mantra, devotion and clarifying vibrations following August events that drew people from our international and regional communities.

“The August 3-5 Temple Dedication Weekend was a special time of coming together to saturate the Temple with devotion,” recalls Swami Lalitananda. “People made a dedication to themselves or to the teachings or to giving back in some way. The ceremony was very meaningful and beautiful. The Temple now holds the memory of it, and participants said they gained a new understanding of what dedication means to them.”

In mid-August, the Temple hosted two memorable performances bridging the spectrum from experimental contemporary music to traditional Indian dance.

The Nakatani Gong Orchestra drew in 14 local musicians who trained for two hours to use hand-made bows and mallets to create the improvisational sound conducted by Tatsuya Nakatani. It was an evening of cleansing the tonal palate with sounds from the universe, enjoyed by a full house. see photos

Vancouver dancer/teacher/choreographer, Anusha Fernando, returned to offer an evening of classical Indian Dance titled Devotions. Those who witnessed the dance were invited into a meditative experience that included enactment of the birth of the river Ganga on whose banks the cycle of life and death is played out. It was a celebration of joy that comes from the union of rhythm and movement. see photos
