Cook for “Canada’s Best Yoga Retreat” on the shores of Kootenay Lake in the mountains of SE British Columbia.
As a progressive, health conscious community, the Yasodhara Ashram Society is looking for an experienced cook with a passion for organic, vegetarian cuisine. You will assist the Ashram’s Lead Cook/Kitchen Manager by cooking buffet-style lunches and suppers that are simple, nutritionally balanced, tasty and seasonally responsive.
Yasodhara Ashram is a residential spiritual community. This is a part-time, permanent position with a competitive wage and benefits. It provides an opportunity to live in the community on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake.
We are a positive, supportive workplace where communication and personal growth are highly valued. Understanding of yoga would be helpful but is not required.
Start Date: May 1, 2017
- 20 hours per week, May 1 to June 24. September 11 onward
- 40 hours per week, June 25 to September 10
Rate of pay: $16/hour Benefits: available after 3 months employment
The position requires cooking in a nutritionally aware mainly vegetarian style for 30 to 100 people with an ability to organize and operate a community kitchen based on harmony, open communication and teamwork. The Lead Cook/Kitchen Manager will support you in this role.
- At least 3 years of professional experience cooking for vegetarians and vegans;
- Experience in cooking large quantities of buffet-style food at retreat centres or camps; and
- Enthusiasm, reliability and excellent interpersonal skills
